Depression Causes
Depression does not spring from simply having too much or too little of a certain chemical, rather than there are multiple intrinsic and external causes including faulty mood regulation, genetics, stress, medications, health issues. Several of those causes interact to bring about depression [3].
Antidepressants
Antidepressants are class of drugs that are used to treat depression. Most common are Selective serotonin ReUptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) [4]:
- fluoxetine (Prozac)
- sertraline (Zoloft)
- paroxetine (Paxil),
- fluvoxamine (Luvox)
- citalopram (Celexa)
- escitalopram (Lexapro)
SSRIs cause dependencies including withdrawal symptoms and even some cases even addictions [5].
Antidepressants do not work so well to treat depression as marketed [6,7].
